What can shareholders expect in their share?

Heirloom tomatoes, a wide variety of vegetables, eggs, and breads and preserves made in the farm’s certified kitchen.  A typical full share in late July might include 3 lbs of tomatoes, 1 dozen ears of sweet corn, 2-3 sweet peppers, 1 lb of green beans, 2 cantaloupes, 1 lb of carrots, 3 squashes, basil, 1 loaf of bread.  This will, of course, depend on what’s in season.

The Prettymans keep their CSA members updated on farm news and CSA shares, sharing helpful recipes, through weekly e-newsletters and emails, and via Heritage Acres Farm’s Facebook page.

What makes Heritage Acres a unique CSA:

The Prettymans run an 80-acre family farm that is Certified Naturally Grown, and have been running a CSA for five years.  They believe in giving back to the earth more than what they take by adding well composted manures, leaf mold, wood chips, green manures & vegetable matter to our soil.  Most of their plants are raised from seed on the farm, and many are from seeds they save.  Healthy, pesticide & herbicide-free gardens mean healthy bodies for the farmers & their customers alike.  Jacki carries the same practices into her state-certified kitchen, using all-natural ingredients & as much on-farm produce as possible.  From their wholesome produce & the freshly baked breads & pies to the sweet preserves & pickled vegetables, quality is very important to the Prettymans.

Are you a member of a club or group of regularly-meeting folks who would like to form a CSA?  Heritage Acres Farm is open to creating a CSA for individual groups and small corporations — contact Eldon and Jacki for details.
