What can shareholders expect in their share? Shares are made up of several different types of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, with the intention of having each week’s package make sense for cooking at least one weekly recipe. Organic Way grows a wide variety of heirloom veggies, over 40 different tomatoes and 10 different types of peppers, among other things. Denise partners with nearby farmers to provide blackberries and apples for Organic Way’s CSA members. Denise sends out a weekly newsletter to CSA members with recipes and tips for what to do with their share contents.

Number of shares offered for 2010 season: 175

LENGTH OF 2010 SEASON: 22 weeks (May – October)

WHAT MAKES THE ORGANIC WAY FARM UNIQUE:

With 15 years in farming and a CSA entering its 11th year, Organic Way is one of KC’s oldest CSA farms. Denice is dedicated to organic farming methods, although Organic Way isn’t certified, using crop rotations, cover cropping, composting, and application of natural soil-building amendments rather than any synthetics. They grow mostly heirloom produce and start all their own plants to ensure they get high-quality starts which have not been exposed to pesticides or artificial fertilizers.

Due to its distance from Kansas City, Organic Way’s CSA members aren’t required to work or visit the farm, although visitors are welcome! (Please schedule your visit in advance.)
