WHAT MAKES OUR FARM UNIQUE:
Jim hails from a self-sustaining, large farming family, and both he and Ami have extensive horticultural experience thanks to their time spent working at Powell Gardens and their landscaping design business, not to mention our own home gardening experiments! We are dedicated to using organic growing methods (we are transitioning toward organic certification), utilizing compost, crop rotation, row covers, and companion planting of herbs and flowers to attract beneficial insects while deterring pests. We will use high tunnels this year to further help with pest reduction and season extension. We got our market-farming feet under us last year at the Community Market at Brookside (KCMO), and can be found there again in 2010. Trying our hand for the first time at operating a CSA this year, we are starting pretty small so that we can ensure our members are well-cared-for. Our members are not required to work at the farm as a part of their share, but volunteers are always welcome (please arrange your visit ahead of time).
Full-time and volunteer apprenticeships are arranged through Growing Growers — we are seeking 1 or 2 apprentices for 2010.
